During this project we have been given regular formative dates to give us more of a timeline for this project. This is to ensure that we know where we should be at regarding the process of our work and to get regular feedback on what we are creating/thinking/feeling about our individual projects.
Personally I think this is a good idea as it gives me a structure and regular goals to work towards as this project is quite daunting, it needs to be broken down - And these formatives help with doing that.
The first formative was only a couple of weeks into the project so the deliverables set were small but important to getting the project going. These deliverables included a more fefined question for our project which we hope to 'answer' with our project, such as a problem or hypothesis that needs proving, theories, facts and studies that back our project and finally the final outcomes in which we want to create - See below.

The feedback from the formative was good, my question was clear and made sense as well as the final outcomes and the creative image that portrays PROJECT X as a whole.
It was time to develop.
For our next formative we needed to show that we had been developing and creating in various different ways. For me personally, I was working on my knife logo which you can see in the poster above, I feel as though it needs work, it needs to be 3D and it needs to be more clear of what it portrays - which is a knife being melted into a ring.
I went away and tried to develop the logo, playing around with the shadowing and chrome effect, which I haven't done before, it is a new skill but one that I somewhat understand, it just takes a lot of fiddling to get the right effect.

As you can see I starting playing around with the shapes of which the melted knife creates, I'm still not sure about them and this logo is a small part of the project so it is important for me to not spend every minute of every hour focusing on just this. However, as I thought about it further, I came up with the idea of using the process of the knife melting from a puddle of stainless steel into something beautiful like a ring.

I really like the idea of showcasing the creation of the piece of jewellery in this way as I think it makes it more clear in what I am trying to achieve with PROJECT X.
As well as developing the logo I needed to develop the brand image and what PROJECT X will look like entirely as it extremely important to have a good aesthetic for a business/project/product.
I decided I wanted to create instagram uploads which summarise what PROJECT X is, what we want to achieve, how and where in easy to understand images as I think that it is important to make sure my ideas and concepts are coming across as clearly in my formatives as they are in my brain.
Because I wanted to experiment with the colours and overall aesthetic I did a bit of both...

I had concerns around the blue aesthetic because overall don't think it is as strong as the black and yellow aesthetic and as soon as I showed Russell he agreed that it was confusing and not clear which helped me then focus on the black and yellow branding.

For me it was important, at this stage, to make sure my peers and lecturers could see what PROJECT X is trying to achieve and what I want the final outcomes to be. It is easy to get caught up in the design and branding element of projects because sometimes I feel like that's just what you're meant to do, however I want this project to be solid and simple that can be understood and then endoursed by any institution or corporation because it is clear and strong - For me, this is more of a corporate, educational project and it needs to come across as that, not an art project with pretty visuals that well dont really mean much.
My next steps are to develop what my final deliverables will be and to create a plan on how I can deliver them from now until the end of the project, I am looking into making a pdf/booklet that is online and can be flicked through like a real book which will have facts, figures, aims, objects, outcomes and everything imbetween that will make PROJECT X a real campaign.
